Up to Mount Floyen - winter

Today we’re going for a hike at Mount Floyen. It was snowing last night so this will be a scenic hike. Mount Floyen view point is located at an altitude of 320 meters above sea level.

Mount Floyen location
Mount Floyen is located just next to the city of Bergen, in fact it is one of the mountains surrounding Bergen. You get to the top either by walking og go by the funicular, we’ll be walking up today. We plan to use 3 hours; walking up, enjoying the view & eating packed lunch and walking down. All free. Our hike starts in the center of Bergen, by the funicular lower station, 200 meters from the world famous fish market in Bergen. The hike path is a little bit steep.

Floybanen Funicular
You can get to the top of Mount Floyen by the Floybanen Funicular. One way NOK 35, return fare NOK 70. Just in case you want to get to the top fast ;)

What to wear? – Today’s Hike Equipment
Today’s weather: sunshine and some clouds, 1 degree Celcius. As it is snowing light at the Mount Floyen and snow at the ground we need good and waterproof hiking shoes. By experience we’ll choose to wear layered clothing; winter underwear, fleece jacket and a shell insulated jacket. We’ll also use a pair of Adidas light gloves. Also; we did bring our iPhone to post photos to this post, but the iPhone photo quality was too bad so we had to replace the photo when we got back to the office :( Now we know…

Summary after the hike
We bought a chocolate on top of the mountain as a reward to ourselves, even if it to see the view was a reward itself.

On the way back down it started to snow so it was good that we had good hiking clothes that kept us warm.

Very nice hike :)
