Besseggen hike
Besseggen is the most popular hike in Norway. In average 50.000 hikers walk this path every year. Besseggen is the #21 most popular nature attraction in Norway.
On Besseggen, you can enjoy views of the green Gjendevannet and the deep-blue Bessvatnet. Green color indicates that Gjendevannet is glacier water. Small particles in the water from glaciers remain floating and creates a light refraction that especially in the sunshine gives a strong green color. Bessvatnet do not get water from the glacier and seems therefore blue.

We have just made this information page to inform about the upcoming Besseggen hike.
Start of Besseggen
The hike starts at Gjendesheim, this is where you may park your car or get off the bus. So this is our starting point for the Besseggen hike. You can get to Gjendesheim by bus from both Oslo and Bergen, by express bus.

As said, our starts at Gjendesheim. From there we’re going by a small boat to Memurubu. From Memurubu we walk up the Besseggen and down to Gjendesheim (our starting point).

It is free to walk the Besseggen path. The boat from Gjendesheim to Memurubu is 100 kroner, return fare 130 kroner. Accommodation? Cost of transport from Oslo or Bergen, return fare?
Besseggen accommodation
DNT, the Norwegian Trekking Association, has a large cabin at Gjendesheim. Open in summer season normally from around mid June through the first week of October. Cost?
